From September 30th through October 16th, the Film Society of Lincoln Center will be celebrating the approaching 100th Anniversary of the founding of Japan's Nikkatsu Corportation with a side-bar to the 2011 New York Film Festival entitled “Velvet Bullets and Steel Kisses.”
The series will include over thirty-five movies ranging from Shozo Makino's Jiraiya the Ninja (1921) to Sion Sono's Cold Fish (2010). By far the bulk of the films being shown will be from the 1950s to the present and will include an outstanding sampling of the incredible output of this venerable studio.
I'll be running reviews of quite a few of the films, but in the meanwhile, further information about the films and showtimes, as well as links to order tickets, can be found at the FSLC website by clicking here.
“Velvet Bullets and Steel Kisses” was organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center with Nikkatsu Corporation, the Japan Foundation, and the National Film Center of Japan.
