Where: Japan Society NY
333 East 47th Street, NYC

Maverick avant-garde composer, musician and arranger John Zorn will be the guest curator of Japan Society NY's 2014–15 Monthly Film Series. Entitled The Dark Side of the Sun: John Zorn on Japanese Cinema, the series will run from October 18, 2014 to February 20, 2015. Zorn, who has a deep love and knowledge of Japanese cinema, has selected lesser-known or overlooked works from six Japanese directors.
Ranging from experimental shorts by the “godfather of anime” Osamu Tezuka to the U.S. premiere of the whimsical, made-for-television movie It’s Me Here, Bellett, directed by Nagisa Oshima, this series will inspire cinephiles to discover or re-discover Japanese cinema through the eyes of one of its most ardent fans.
The first film to be shown will be Atsushi Yamatoya’s Inflatable Sex Doll of the Wastelands (1967) on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 7 PM.
This series marks the first time each of these films will be shown at Japan Society.
