Nakadai as Lord Hidetora in Kurosawa's Ran |
Japanese actor Tatsuya Nakadai was born in Tokyo, Japan, on December 13, 1932 although some sources say 1930. His 147 credits at IMDb include starring roles in such films directed by Akira Kurosawa as Yojimbo (1961), High and Low (1963), Kagemusha (1980), and Ran (1985).

He also appeared in well-known films by other directors. With Masaki Kobayashi he made The Human Condition (a trilogy made from 1959-61), Harakiri (1962), and Samurai Rebellion (1967).
In Okamoto[s The Sword of Doom |
With Kihachi Okamoto he made The Sword of Doom (1966) and Kill! (1968).
Hachikô monogatari |
One of my personal favorites is Hachi-ko (1987), directed by Seijiro Koyama from a screenplay by Kaneto Shindo.
So, Happy 81st (or 83rd) Birthday, Nakadai-san and Best Wishes for many more.
