Donnie unleashes a high-flying kick in Dragon (2011) |
Donnie Yen was born on July 27, 1963 in Canton, China. His birth-name is Zhen Zidan. He is currently one of Hong Kong's most active action stars, quite probably the most active. He has starred in many great films, including Wing Chun (1994), Seven Swords and Kill Zone - S.P.L. (both 2005), Painted Skin and Ip Man (both 2008), Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster (2010), Special ID (2013) and Iceman (2014) to name but a few.
He had a brief but brilliant cameo in Matt Chow's comedy Golden Chickensss (2014) in which he played Ip Man, only he was dressed like Tony Leung Chiu Wai's Ip Man in Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmaster! The bit was hilarious!
He'll be starring in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny, which is currently filming and has a 2015 planned release date. For his complete filmography at IMDB, click here.
In 2012, Donnie received the Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival, an accolade well-deserved.
So happy 51st birthday wishes, Donnie, from AsianCineFest and your many fans around the world. Keep the action comin'!
