ACF 1989: Happy Birthday, Yuen Biao
Yuen Biao was born on July 26, 1957 in Hong Kong. His birth-name is Hsia Ling-Jun. He trained at the same school as Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan and starred in several films with them, as well as in some directed by Sammo. Just yesterday I happened to finish watching Sammo's Shanghai Express (a.k.a. Millionaire's Express, 1986) in which Yuen Biao performs an incredible flip off the roof of a three story building, as well as several other terrific stunts and fight sequences.
Most recently he was seen in Tai Chi Hero (2012) as Li Qiankun. In it his character squared off against Yang Lu Chan (Yuan Xiaochao), the star of the trilogy, in the final, fantastic fight sequence which takes place on the edges of narrow partitions within in a royal kitchen.
So happy 56th birthday wishes, Yuen Biao, from AsianCineFest and all your many world-wide fans.
